Dominican Republic Economy

The Dominican economy, with a population of 9.4 M (est. 2010 Census), has the second largest economy in Central America with an overall ranking of 70th in the world. It has a GDP PPP of $103.2 Billion and GDP PPP per capita of $9,991 vs. $53,101 (United States) according to the IMF in 2013. Its national currency is the Peso with ISO value DOP/or RD$ that is issued by Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (www.bancentral.gov.do). The banks in the country offer transaction accounts (Cuentas Corriente), Peso Savings Accounts (Cuentas de Ahorro), Ahorro En DÓLARES (Savings in US Dollars) as well deposits with a fixed term and a fixed yield (Certificados de Depósito). According to CIA.gov its inflation was 5% in 2013 and 3.7% in 2012.
